Elderberries are a great source of antioxidants . Elder plant often is used to help fight viral infections, sinus infections, tame inflammation, and may aid in treatment of constipation. Below is a recipe of my elderberry syrup that I prepare for my family on the first signs of the infection.
4 tbsp of dry Elderberries
1.5 cup of filtered water
2 pieces of whole cloves
Pinch of cinnamon powder
Boil it on low heat for about 30 min to 45 minutes under the cover.
You may have 3 tsp up to 3 times a day. Sometimes elderberry syrup may cause stomach discomfort. In this case lower dose to 2 tsp a day for up to 4 days. You don't have to add cinnamon and cloves if you don't like the taste of it.
Never eat raw elderberries as they are toxic in raw state.
